Chapter 1104
Lucas broke down in tears. "Aaron, I'm sorry. I haven't been a good person, and I've been an even worse father. You have every right to be angry with me, to hate me if you want. I've let everyone down."
He'd never felt regret like this before-not until now.
"Aaron, from now on, Uncle Connor will be your dad. He'll do a much better job than I ever could. Go ahead, hate me, blame me. Honestly, it might be better if you just forgot about me."noveldrama
He stood up and walked away without looking back.
Summer watched him go, his figure disappearing into the night, and finally let her own tears fall. She dropped her head and whispered, "I won't hate you. You'll always be my dad."
A few minutes later, Connor rolled over in his wheelchair, Chloe quietly by his side. They'd seen everything.
Some people just never want to grow up, and Lucas was one of them. He'd always run from his responsibilities, always found ways to avoid facing reality. Deep down, he was still a child-maybe even less mature than Aaron. Even now, he couldn't see things from his own kid's point of view.
Connor didn't say anything right away. He just watched as Summer picked up her Rubik's cube, turning it in her hands like nothing had happened.
He'd talked with Summer about stuff like this before, but she was still just a kid- there was no way she could really understand how messy and complicated adults could be.
Finally, Connor spoke. "Aaron, can I tell you my story? I was born under a curse too. My real mom-she was actually my oldest sister, at least on paper...'
Connor talked for a long time, and Summer listened, quiet and thoughtful.
Chloe came by a few times but never interrupted.
When he finished, Connor looked at Summer seriously. "Aaron, you're your parents' child, but you're also your own person. You came into this world@s your own soul, just
эл
borrowing their genes. You get to decide who you want to be. You're frée, just like I am."
He told her about his whole life, about everything that happened between him and Claire. He didn't know how much Summer could really understand, but what
n el
mattered was letting her know she could choose her own path. She
wasn't defined by where she came from.
Summer seemed to get it, at least a little. Even though she was young, she'd always felt like Uncle Connor was the one who understood her best. Hearing his story made her feel even closer to him.
"I understand," she said quietly.
Connor took out a phone and handed it to her. "Your dad wanted you to have this. His number's already in there. Whenever you miss him, you can call any time."
Summer reached out and took the phone, holding it tight.
Connor smiled gently. "Your dad just isn't mature yet. It's not that he doesn't love you. Aaron, remember this-you're luckier than I was. You have so many people who love you."
"I know. Thank you... Dad Connor," Summer said softly.
Connor froze. "What did you call me?"
Summer looked up, a shy smile on her face. "Well, I'm living with you now. I figured I'd end up calling you Dad eventually, so why not start now?"
She stood up. "Dad Connor, I'm going to bed. You should rest too. Good night."
She left the room, as calm and casual as if this were any ordinary night.
But for Connor, nothing about this moment felt ordinary at all.
What do you think?
