Love That Wasn't Meant to Last

Chapter 16

Watching the video of Selena in that manic state left me stunned. Was this really Selena? My mind went blank as memories of our time together flashed before me. "Hi, my name's Selena Norman. I like you. Can you be my boyfriend?"

"It's our first anniversary. We have to celebrate it!"

"I'm super in love with you."

I recalled those sweet words she told me before.

It had only been a few months, yet somehow it was impossible to process that she might be gone.

"What happened to her? Is she okay?" I asked, gripping Zion's arm.

"If you want answers, come back with me," he replied. "Don't make a choice you'll regret."

In the end, I took a week off and flew back with him on the next available flight. After hours of turbulence, we landed at dawn. The sun was rising, casting a soft glow across the sky. Exhausted, I hadn't slept a minute, haunted by the image of her harming herself.

Zion made a call, then turned to me with a complicated expression. "I've called a car. Try to sleep on the way. Even if you're separated, Selena wouldn't want to see you like this."

But I couldn't sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, the video surfaced in my mind, and I heard her cries. "How is she?" I asked, barely holding it together.

"You'll find out soon." He sounded indifferent. He added while frowning after he seemed to think of something, "You'd better catch some sleep. You might be able to fall asleep. Don't be fooled by your assumptions."

We ate something at the airport and then got into the car. I eventually drifted off like what Zion said even though images of Selena popped up in my mind.

I was asleep for a long time until we arrived at the hospital. Zion didn't lie to me. Selena did try to end her life but failed.

She was found out by someone half an hour later after cutting her wrist.

Following Zion inside, I found that the halls were nearly empty, adding to the heavy silence.noveldrama

"How is she now?" I asked as we walked down a long corridor.

He didn't respond, only stopped in front of a room, glanced at his phone, then looked at me.

"She's in there. Go see for yourself."

I stared at the closed door and felt my heart race.
