Chapter 1227
Maja's bodyguards, who were also tasked by the Dark Web to keep tabs on her, stepped out of the car, ready to approach. But Maja waved them off. She took a quick glance at her sister's workplace, not wanting to stir up any trouble there.
"Annie, come here," Maja called softly.
Annie brushed past Conner and stood in front of her sister. "Sis, can't you just listen to me this once? Let's go back home, please. Even without Emmery, I can keep you safe, I promise. I'm begging you."
Maja's eyes welled up with tears. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a necklace she'd prepared earlier, gently placing it around Annie's neck. "I planned to rescue you, but it looks like you were safe all along. I just wanted to see with my own eyes that you were okay.
"Your birthday's coming up, and I won't be there to celebrate it with you. Let this necklace be my birthday gift to you."
Maja lightly caressed the pendant, her eyes filled with sadness. "Annie, I've made peace with the idea of dying. Living alone is hard; there's longing, there's pain, there's loneliness. If the day comes when I'm not around anymore, let this necklace remind you of me."
Her eyes turned cold as she looked at Conner. "I still won't forgive you."
With that, Maja turned away and got into the car, not looking back.
"Sis!" Annie cried, chasing after her. But Maja was already in the car, and the doors were locked tight.
Maja glanced at the necklace around Annie's neck, a look of longing in her eyes as she watched her sister desperately tap on the car window. She managed a faint smile.
As the car drove off, Annie couldn't open the door and eventually stood there, exhausted and helpless, watching her sister's car disappear. "Conner, why didn't you help me keep my sister here?" Annie asked, her voice flat.
Conner replied, "If she'd stayed, the Dark Web's hitmen would have killed her then and there."
"Why?"
"Because she knows too much. The Dark Web won't let her live." Maja knew her fate was sealed. She knew she was making a dangerous deal, and her life was the price.
Annie felt lost, sinking down in defeat. "I wanted to protect both of you, but it seems I can't protect either."
Conner stepped closer, gently lifting her to her feet. "Don't worry, Annie. I'll protect the ones you care about."

In the Cedillo family household, even Henry's nap was a family affair.
Henry usually slept cozily between his parents, but there were constant knocks on the door. "Mia, Andre, how's the little one?" "Mia dear, is my grandson asleep?" "Mia, is my nephew crying again? Has the swelling gone down?"
Finally, Mia took her son to his nursery.
The family couldn't sleep soundly, feeling the need to check on Henry throughout the night. Every time he shifted in his sleep, they would nervously adjust his tiny face, making sure he was comfortable.noveldrama
As Mars kept everyone updated, Teddy's plane landed in the middle of the night. He called Andre, "Andre, which hospital room is my son in? I've arranged for specialists from every department to consult tonight. I won't rest until my baby is better."
Andre replied, "...We're at home."
"At home? My child can't speak, and you're still at home?" Teddy fumed.
Can't speak?
His little one had been happily babbling away during bath time, having a full-on baby conversation with him.
What do you think?
