Chapter 1249
Mia was knee-deep in her studies when the door burst open with a bang. "Sis, how could you not tell me about something as massive as you two getting kidnapped? And you wouldn't let me see my little nephew because of his bruised face, right?"
Mia was all set to give her brother a piece of her mind for disrupting her study time, but his words caught her off guard, deflating her anger. "How did you find out?"
"I took note of the medicine you used earlier and looked it up," Cooper shot back, standing there in the study, getting into it with his sister. "I was about ready to go confront the Cedillos when mom filled me in."
A servant, overhearing the commotion, hurried upstairs. "Ma'am?"
Mia waved it off, "Could you bring up a cup of chamomile tea, please?"
In no time, the tea was ready and handed over. Mia passed it to her brother, "Take a seat and have some tea to cool down."
Cooper plopped down, sweetie nestled in his arms. He ignored the tea, but his little nephew, eyes wide with curiosity, reached over and tried to snag it for a taste.
"I decided not to tell you," Mia admitted. "You should stay focused on your studies abroad. It's all behind us now, no need to drag you into it."noveldrama
"Sis, you never see me as an adult," Cooper retorted, slapping his hand on the table. Little Henry jumped at the noise, then went right back to sipping his tea.
"You kept me in the dark when you got married, and now, with both of you getting kidnapped, you still kept it from me. What will you ever share with me? Just because you're a few years older, you always see me as a kid. But think about it, I've been on my own overseas for years. Am I really that much less mature or capable than you?" He might even be stronger than his sister in some ways.
Mia felt a pang of guilt; her brother's words struck a nerve. "Cooper, I just didn't want you caught up in something so complicated. Your brother-in-law will take care of it."
"Sure, it's his job as a man to handle it. But I'm your brother, an adult, a man too. Isn't your brother-in-law family? Am I not? Can I always be kept in the dark and protected?"
Henry's little face turned this way and that, watching his mom and uncle bicker, his ears perked up, storing little secrets. But his hands were busy "washing" in his uncle's chamomile tea.
After his impromptu hand wash, he cutely held up the little cup, offering it to his uncle.
"This isn't milk; it's your handwashing water."
The sibling spat ended on a sour note, and Cooper was on his way out when Mia called after him, "Aren't you forgetting your little munchkin here?"
The little guy, sleeves soaked from "making" his special uncle drink, stood on the chair, propped up on the table, his adorable eyes fixed on his uncle.
Cooper took a few steps, then turned back, scooped up sweetie, and walked off without another word to his sister.
Mia bit her lip, realizing she'd messed up, and quickly dialed her husband, "Hey, honey!"
Once Andre heard the story, he reassured her, "I'll be home soon. Don't worry, with Henry keeping Cooper busy, he won't leave."
That afternoon, Cooper was giving Mia the cold shoulder in the living room. Mia, trying to win him over, poured him a drink herself, "Cooper, I was wrong."
Cooper shot back, "Mrs. Cedillo, how could you be wrong? You've done nothing wrong."
Mia, sitting nearby, looked to her son with hopeful eyes, hoping he might help her out.
The little guy, looking adorably clueless, glanced between his uncle and mom, piping up, "Mommy hit!"
What do you think?
