The Day Our Promise Breaks

Chapter 422

"Slap-"

Evelyn glared at Charles, who was still defending Dahlia with unwavering loyalty. Fueled by anger, she swung her hand and slapped him hard, cutting off his words mid-sentence.

Her chest rose and fell with emotion. How could he not see the truth? The nurse had laid everything out plainly, yet he continued to stand by Dahlia, this cruel woman! Two years ago, Dahlia was behind Charlie's death, and Charles had blindly defended her. Now, she had nearly killed Evelyn's mother, leaving her in a coma, and he was still on her side!

To Charles, Charlie's and her mother's lives were insignificant, only Dahlia's life seemed to matter. Thinking of Charlie, who couldn't rest in peace, and her mother, lying unconscious, made Evelyn's blood boil. One slap wasn't enough to quell her fury. With eyes blazing, she raised her hand to strike Charles again.

Charles's brow furrowed. He quickly reached out and caught her wrist, stopping her in her tracks. "Eve, take a breath."

This wasn't the time for rash actions. He had so many questions that needed

answers.

"Take a breath? Charles, Dahlia was the reason Charlie died and now my mom's in a vegetative state, and you're telling me to cool down? My mom must've been out of her mind to save someone as ungrateful as you!"

She had saved him, only for him to shield the one who had caused her so much pain. Hearing Evelyn's words, Charles was momentarily stunned. Evelyn seized the moment, reversing their positions and landing another slap.

Charles snapped back to reality, grabbing her hand once more. "Evelyn, do you even realize what you're saying?"

"Charles, you can't possibly be buying what Evelyn's selling, can you?" Dahlia clung to his arm, tears streaming down her face. "Think about it, the locket could've been picked up by anyone, but back then, you were the one who couldn't see, not Debbie!"noveldrama

"If Evelyn really is Debbie, she met you when she was eight. You haven't changed a bit. How could she fail to recognize you?"

"Debbie was crazy about her Iceman. Why wouldn't she come running back to you?"

"If I were pretending to be someone else, why wouldn't she have outed me sooner instead of waiting until now?"

"Evelyn, are you really taking Charles for a fool?"

Seeing Charles clearly being swayed by Dahlia's words, Evelyn couldn't hold back her anger. "That's because I lost my memory!"

"Evelyn, do you really believe that? Is it just a coincidence you forget everything except Charles?"

Dahlia tightened her grip on Charles.

"Charles, Evelyn knows Sandy

desperately needs a kidney transplant because of rejection issues. She wants revenge on me and Sandy, so she's spun this tale that I'm not Debbie, but she is." Cóntent belongs to

"If she convinces you that I'm not Debbie and just a fraud, you won't care about Sandy and me anymore."

"Without your help, we can't find a

"She's willing to do anything for revenge!"

As Dahlia spoke, tears poured down her cheeks.

Charles looked at Evelyn, his expression torn and conflicted. In the past, he wouldn't have

f

entertained such an outrageous claim from Evelyn. As Dahlia pointed out, how could there be such convenient coincidences? The amnesia seemed too perfectly timed. The whole accusation was too convenient.

Yet, despite it all, a nagging thought crept into his mind. What if Eve was telling

the truth, and she really was Debbie...

So, despite knowing it was a long shot, Charles asked, "Eve, do you have any proof that Dahlia isn't Debbie?"
