Chapter 1692
Inside the box was a tiny, light brown sugar glider. The moment Santos opened the box, the little creature made a beeline for him and ended up perched right on his shoulder.
Seeing this, Santos gently stroked the glider's head, then picked it up, holding it in mid-air. "Alright, little one, time to show what you've got."
The glider kicked its legs as if trying to escape from his grasp. Santos couldn't help but smirk. In no time, he injected a prepped vial of serum into the glider.
After he was done, he placed the glider back in the box. With a snap of his fingers, he locked the lid, a cold, predatory grin playing on his lips. No one slips through his fingers.
**By around nine in the morning, Mirabella finally stirred awake. As she opened her eyes, she saw Cassie snoozing, sprawled over the edge of the bed.
Mirabella glanced over at him, then sat up, catching a whiff of lingering herbal scents in the air, and raised an eyebrow. The kid had clearly learned a thing or two from hanging around her.
Looking around the unfamiliar room, she quickly got out of bed, feeling the plush carpet under her bare feet. She gently covered Cassie with the blanket and quietly slipped out of the room.
As soon as she stepped into the hallway, James appeared at the top of the staircase.
Their eyes met.
James paused briefly, his gaze dropping to her bare feet before he strode over. "You're up. How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay..." Mirabella started to say, but before she could finish, James had already scooped her up in his arms.
"The floor's cold," James said, pulling her closer to his chest, his chin resting on top of her head. "Sorry I wasn't there sooner." The apology in his voice stirred something warm inside her. She placed her hand over his, murmuring softly, "I know what I'm doing. I wouldn't let anything happen to me."
James wasn't sure whether to be frustrated or amused by her words. With a sigh, he said, "Mirabella, your boyfriend's not exactly a pushover."
His voice carried a hint of deep frustration.
Mirabella stayed quiet for a
moment. It definitely wasn't the right time to admit she'd gone in alone because she worried someone might mess up her plan to rescue her friends.
After a moment of thought, she said sincerely, "I just think a boyfriend's safety should come first."
After all, Santos was infamously crafty and skilled with potions. Even

"So, bottom line, you think I'd slow you down, huh?" If James didn't

Mirabella chose silence as her answer.

James shook his head, carrying her to a room at the end of the hallway.
Once inside, Mirabella looked up, cautious. "I've had enough sleep."noveldrama
Ignoring her, James tucked her into bed and settled in beside her. "I'm beat. Haven't slept all night."
Mirabella: "..."
Well, that's one way to make her feel guilty.
With a soft sigh, Mirabella found a comfy spot and reluctantly closed her eyes.
After a while, James opened his eyes again, looking down at the girl nestled against him, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.
What do you think?
