Chapter 1707
James threw a quick glance at Wyatt, "Not on the best terms, huh?"
"Exactly. I remember it was quite the scandal back then. But Murray's not bold enough to pick a fight with the Davis family; he's just not up to it," Wyatt replied, a hint of melancholy creeping into his voice.
With the future lady of the house coming from such a high-powered background, James's path to marriage seemed like a minefield.
James clasped his hands behind his back, his long fingers sharply defined. Finally, he turned his focus to the person in charge nearby, "What's Murray after today?"
Wyatt felt a jolt of anxiety when James brought this up. He had a hunch that James was about to do something rash, driven by emotion.
"It's NF01," the person in charge responded quickly, then hesitated before adding, "But Governor Carter's here for NF01 too, and they had a bit of a run-in at the meeting."
James narrowed his eyes, his voice steady and cool, "Give it to Carter."
Wyatt had that 'I knew this would happen' look on his face. The person in charge didn't dare question the boss's call. After all, a sale was a sale, so he nodded, "Alright, I'll go let the manager know."
The person in charge left promptly.
Mirabella raised an eyebrow at James, "Aren't you worried about stirring up trouble?"
"Not really," James shrugged it off.noveldrama
"Reckless as always," Mirabella clicked her tongue, then glanced toward the live ammo training room, "I'll check on the kid."
"Alright."
Once Mirabella was in the training room, Wyatt rubbed his nose, "The Earl's place is probably going to blow up."
The Cole family, thanks to their close ties with the current royal prince, had seen their status skyrocket, almost matching the other top five forces in Merrywoods.
Though their weapons bureau wasn't intimidated by the Earl's estate, tensions were running high and the ministers, who'd just settled down might seize the chance to stir the pot again. James remained unfazed, "Not my problem.
Wyatt coughed, realizing he'd forgotten how James never flinched at threats. Since the order went to Carter, the Earl's estate would likely assume Governor Carter was behind it all. With those two factions clashing, they'd be too busy to dig deeper into the details.
**Murray's Private Room.**
"The order went to Carter's side? Why?" Murray's face turned a shade of green as
the secretary delivered the news.
He'd come specifically for the NF01, and now that it had slipped into Carter's
hands, how was he supposed to explain this mess?
"The person in charge said Governor Carter pre-ordered it," the secretary explained, trying to keep his tone neutral.
Murray couldn't hold back, slamming his hand on the table, "That's nonsense. If Carter had pre-ordered, Minister Fang would've given me a heads-up."
The secretary managed a wry smile, "But they've already signed the contract; there's no undoing it now."
"Damn it," Murray muttered,
clenching his fists, baffled at how things had spiraled out of control. With Asa still there, Murray took a deep breath, forcing his anger down. He turned to the secretary, "James was here today, right? Set up a meeting with him for me
The secretary nodded quickly and left the room.
Asa uncrossed his legs and stood up, "Thanks for inviting me to the trade show today, Earl. I should be heading back."
Murray, no longer in the mood to entertain Asa, stood up as well, "Alright, let's catch up over dinner with Leon sometime."
"Sure," Asa nodded, raising a hand to signal that a formal goodbye wasn't necessary.
Once Asa had left, Murray's face darkened completely. He paused in thought before instructing his confidant, "Find out what Carter did to snag my order."
What do you think?
