Ashton's tone was polite, yet it carried the weight of authority, like an order from a

superior. I knew he wasn't calling me over for work-related matters.

Just yesterday, he had questioned me about the flowers a young man sent to me, and now he had witnessed something else. Was he going to interrogate me again?

At that moment, I realized that having a boyfriend was like inviting trouble into my life. If I hadn't been involved with Ashton, I could have brushed off Kian's antics without any complications

But now, I had to deal with Ashton too. No man was truly magnanimous, after all

With my colleagues watching, I had no choice but to follow Ashton into his office, even though I wanted to avoid unnecessary gossip.

His office wasn't far from mine. The space was simple yet equipped with various tools and gadgets. Beyond the standard desk, chair, and computer, there were shelves filled with technical manuals and neatly arranged equipment that indicated he took his work seriously.

As I glanced around, the sound of the door closing behind me made my chest tighten slightly. I turned around to face him, greeting him formally, "Mr. Drake."

Earlier, I had noticed the plaque on the door that read Chief Engineer. It certainly matched his hefty salary.

Ashton looked at me with his usual intensity and asked, "Did you have breakfast?"

His gaze was so penetrating that it made my heart race uncontrollably. After last night, I felt even more self-conscious in his presence.

I wandered over to his equipment, pretending to examine it as I replied, "I did."

"Didn't I tell you to rest today? Why did you come to work?" Ashton's question caught me off guard, and I froze for a moment.

Looking at him directly, I said firmly, "Mr. Drake, you're overstepping your boundaries."

His jaw tightened slightly, but I pressed my lips together and continued, "We're together now, but that doesn't mean you can interfere in my life, especially my work-even if you're doing it for my own good."

Ashton opened his mouth to respond but then closed it, nodding slightly. "I understand. It won't happen again."

His willingness to back down surprised me. His attitude was good, so I didn't want to push the matter further. Instead, I glanced around his office again and remarked, "You've got quite the impressive setup here."

He didn't respond, and since it was working hours, I didn't want to linger. I smiled slightly and said, "Well, I'll let you get back to work. I'll head back to my office."

As I turned to leave, Ashton called out, "Elaine."

"Mr. Drake," I replied, matching his formal tone. "At the company, let's interact as colleagues. Also... I don't want others to know about our relationship."

Ashton frowned slightly, so I quickly explained, "Don't take it the wrong way. I just don't want our relationship to create unnecessary rumors or affect our work. It's not that I'm ashamed of you or have any intentions toward other men."

I was careful to be clear so he wouldn't misunderstand.

"Alright," he agreed without hesitation.

Relieved, I smiled. “Okay, then. I'll leave you to it."

But just as I reached the door, Ashton stopped me again. "What did you call me earlier?"

I blinked, confused for a moment, before remembering the teasing tone I had

used when Kian was being escorted out.

“Uh..... that,” I stammered. "I was just joking."

"Do you think I'm old too?" Ashton asked, catching me off guard.

I stared at him, surprised. I hadn't meant that at all! I had only jokingly referred to him as an old man, but clearly, he had taken it the wrong way. It seemed even tough guys could be insecure about their

age.

I shook my head and smiled slightly. "No, you're not old. Not at all.”

"Tell me the truth," Ashton demanded, his tone stern as he noticed my smile.
