Chapter 1244
Chaos broke out all of a sudden, and everyone rushed to help. Maja slipped back into her room, grabbed the spare gun she kept stashed under her pillow just in case, and headed out.
In the midst of the pandemonium, Maja leaned against a wall, her eyes filled with determination, and aimed her gun right at Kon. Three seconds ticked by, and then a shot rang out. Kon hit the ground, dead, his eyes wide open, locked in Maja's direction.
"Who the hell shot him?" someone shouted.
Everyone paused, looking around bewildered. "Wasn't me," "Not me either," "I didn't fire; the boss wanted him alive so we could use him to let off steam..."
With no shooter in sight, Maja stared back at Kon's lifeless eyes and said, "I warned you. Mess with the wrong person, and you pay the price."
She turned on her heel and made a quick exit through the back door. Shooting Kon in front of everyone would have been a death sentence for her, given his crew would be out for blood. But with Andre's crew showing up, Kon's men were scrambling to save themselves, leaving her escape route wide open.
They checked where Kon was shot and quickly pinpointed the shooter's position. "The shot came from over there; let's go after them."
By the time they chased the trail, all they found was the back door swinging open, the shooter long gone.
They turned back and grabbed one of Kon's captured men, demanding answers. "Who else was here?"
"Maja."
A guy dressed like a sailor threw up his hands in frustration. "Damn. Maja is basically family to the Nettleton head, like a VIP. Our boss wanted her brought back in one piece. We got too caught up in the moment and forgot all about her."
Over at Crescent Park, Annie was chasing Conner around with a cushion. "Stop right there and take down that setup! Are you trying to jinx my sister or what?"
Conner dashed ahead but Annie caught up, landing a few playful hits. His rough- and-tumble nature shrugged it off. Whatever he endured during the day, he'd get back from Annie in the evening, so no harm, no foul.
Annie pointed accusingly, “You put

Pinned on the sofa, Conner feigned helplessness. "Annie, I just want her to be safe, that's all."
"This is your idea of wishing her well? Who does that?" Annie snatched her sister's picture away, eyeing the new incense burner before tossing it to him. "Putt in your study." noveldrama
"Why my study?" Conner questioned, eyeing the burner. "It's pointless."
Annie marched to her boyfriend's study, cleared a spot on the desk, placed the
incense burner there, and lit a stick of incense.
Conner watched in silence, not daring to protest.
When one of his staff returned from vacation and saw the setup, they were stunned. "Boss, does this mean every time I report to you, I'll see you sitting behind that incense burner? Should I bow or something?"
Conner: "Get outta here, take some time off."
The staff member exclaimed, "Boss, another break?"
"Stay out of my sight for a month."
Unable to resist, the staff member added, "Boss, being head over heels is a
slippery slope, a deep dark hole in life, destined..."
"Zip it, and vanish."
The staff turned and left.
Conner remained in his study, staring at the incense burner on his desk, musing,
"How do I get rid of this thing?"
What do you think?
