Chapter 889
When he gazed at Yvette's unfaltering expression, Xavier could only swallow down his unwillingness and wave a hand, signaling the guards to back off.
"Yvie." Wilson took a step forward, gripping her hand tightly with concern in his eyes. "You don't look well. Has something happened?"
Yvette pursed her lips and briefly explained the situation to him.
"And that's how it is..."
"Impossible!" exclaimed Wilson, instantly becoming solemn. "My father is not a person who would kill indiscriminately. There must have been a misunderstanding about what happened all those years ago!"
Arthur was an upright man, so he definitely couldn't have laid a hand on innocent women and children!
"What happened all those years ago is long past, so any investigation into it won't be easy and will require time," said Yvette, frowning. "You have to leave immediately.noveldrama
"Mr. Maximilian is blinded by hatred and has lost all rationality, so he's not going to let you off. It's dangerous for you to remain here!"
"But Yvie, if I leave, then what about you?"
Wilson brushed aside the stray strands of hair on her forehead, voice gentle but firm as he continued, "I can't leave."
Theodore was burning with hatred toward him right now, so if he were to leave the Dark Organization at this time, suspicion would definitely fall on Yvette. He didn't want to continue making things difficult for her.
Yvette felt a warmth grow in her heart, and she squeezed his hand in return as she declared, "I'll leave with you and get to the bottom of what happened back then as fast as possible!"
Only by investigating the truth behind the tragic deaths of Theodore's wife and daughter could all these tricky problems be solved!
"I'll have to trouble you to cover up for us, Xav."
Xavier pursed his lips, his dark eyes unreadable. He didn't want to help Wilson, but he had never been able to refuse a request from Yvette.
In the end, he suppressed all the unwillingness he felt and said quietly, "Alright, leave this to me, Yvie."
"Thank you, Xav!"
As he watched her turn and run toward Wilson without an ounce of hesitation, his heart clenched, and he subconsciously reached out for her.
"Yvie..."
But before he could touch her, Wilson stepped between them, saying, "Thanks for the help, Mr. Phillip. Yvie and I will take our leave first."
As soon as the words left his mouth, Wilson got into the car hand in hand with Yvette, not allowing Xavier a single chance to speak.
"You shouldn't have agreed to Ms. Murray's request, Mr. Phillip!" Miguel, who was standing next to him, said suddenly. "Wilson Quinn is being hunted, so if he dies, you'll get your chance with her!"
Xavier remained silent even as he watched them leave, eyes dim.
When evening came, Xavier reported to Theodore, head lowered, "We were a step behind, Mr. Maximillian. Wilson had already escaped..."
"Escaped?"
Rage crossed Theodore's pale face at Xavier's words, but as soon as he got angry, he started coughing violently.
"Mr. Maximillian..."
Xavier immediately stepped forward, quickly fetching a glass of warm water for Theodore.
"Please calm yourself!" he implored.
Theodore took a sip of water, and his coughs finally subsided a little.
However, his expression remained
ugly, and he said coldly, "They won't
be able to get far on Dark
Organization territory. Continue hunting them down! We must
recapture Wilson Quinn!"
Xavier's eyes darkened slightly.
Aloud, he answered respectfully, "Yes, Mr. Maximillian!"
As if a thought had occurred to him, Theodore frowned and added, "Send people
to keep an eye on Yvie! I'm worried that she might go soft on him."
Again, Xavier answered respectfully, "Yes, Mr. Maximillian."
Theodore coughed lightly, then sighed as he commented, "I'll be very reassured knowing you're by Yvie's side even after I'm gone."
"Yvie will definitely be able to cure you, Mr. Maximillian!"
Theodore chose not to comment on his words, instead continuing, "After this matter is settled, I'll think of a way to bring you and Yvie together. You're the one best suited to Yvie, er."
Xavier and Yvette had grown up together, and he also knew Yvette very well. No
matter how one looked at it, he was the best possible suitor for her!
Xavier simply lowered his gaze with a complicated expression at his words, his expression unreadable.
Finally, he said quietly, "My thanks, Mr. Maximilian."
He knew that taking advantage of the situation like this was despicable, but it might also be his only chance.
What do you think?
