Chapter 1695
Mirabella gave him a sideways glance, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Well, thank you so much."
Cassie just stood there, speechless. Women could be so sarcastic sometimes.
"Giving medicine to someone whose body is nearly worn out can actually do more harm than good," Mirabella said, her tone turning serious. "Even the most harmless drugs can be risky."
Cassie suddenly got why his sister had tugged on his ear earlier. He cleared his throat awkwardly and tried to justify himself, "I just thought the old man looked a bit down."
"Try using your head for thinking," Mirabella said with a hint of disdain.
Cassie didn't dare argue and lowered his head, feeling guilty.
"David is a disciple that the Second Elder took under his wing. Even though he doesn't have much time left, he's still connected to us," Mirabella sighed softly.
"Wait, what?" Cassie looked up, genuinely surprised. "He's the one the Second Elder mentioned on his deathbed?"
"Yes," Mirabella confirmed. That was the main reason she went through the trouble of saving David.
Cassie was quiet for a bit before asking, "You gave the old man some acupuncture, right? He should be okay now, right?"
"With your sister on the job, what do you think?" Mirabella raised an eyebrow, a slight smirk playing on her lips.
Cassie let out a sigh of relief. "That's a load off my mind. Otherwise, I'd be in deep trouble."
Switching to more serious matters, Cassie's face took on a more serious look as he turned to Mirabella again. "Sis, did those people come after you this time?"
Seeing the worry in her brother's eyes, Mirabella felt her care for him was justified. She smiled slightly and said casually, "Yeah, but don't worry. I've got your back."
Cassie felt a wave of emotion. His sister really did care.
He regretted not bringing her more self-defense gadgets.
"But, Merrywoods isn't the place for you. I'll arrange for you to head back home morrow," Mirabella said, her laid-back tone making it clearthis was a decision, not a suggestion.
Cassie's warm feeling vanished. "So, you think I'm just a burden?"
Mirabella nodded, "Glad you know."
Cassie was left speechless.
"Have you been in touch with Nellie?" Mirabella asked, changing the subject.
"Yeah, I needed her perfume formula to wake you up. I'm not as talented as you," Cassie grumbled.
Mirabella ignored his sulking and pondered for a moment, then asked, "Did Nellie say anything else?"
"No, she just asked about how you were doing and nothing else," Cassie
shrugged, leaving out the part about arning to stop hanging
around her.
Too embarrassing to admit.
Mirabella nodded, her mind racing. Maybe she hadn't used a strong enough dose on Nellie before.
Cassie glanced at his sister cautiously, not keen on heading back so soon. "Sis, since I'm already here, why don't we head back together later?"
After all, he had dropped out of a reality show and promised his school he'd only show up for the final exam.
For someone like him, sneaking abroad was no small feat.
Going back so soon felt like a waste.noveldrama
"What do you think?" Mirabella smirked.
Cassie rubbed his nose, trying to negotiate. "I can look after myself! I promise I won't be a burden."
He paused, pulling out his phone from his pocket. As he unlocked it, he continued, "Oh, by the way, sis, I made a small profit with my latest investment..."
What do you think?
